Frequently Asked Questions
-
KAP may be a good fit if you're seeking a different approach to healing and are open to exploring non-ordinary states of consciousness in a supported, therapeutic setting. It can be especially beneficial for depression, anxiety, trauma, and psychospiritual exploration. However, KAP is not for everyone. A medical and psychological assessment will help determine if it’s appropriate for you. If you're unsure, I’m happy to discuss your needs in a consultation.
-
The number of KAP sessions varies based on your needs, goals, and response to treatment. A series of 6-8 sessions (1-2 sessions per week) is generally recommended for lasting therapeutic benefits, but we will discuss what’s best for you based on your progress.
-
A KAP session begins with intention setting and preparation before receiving the ketamine. You’ll be in a comfortable, supportive setting, with options for an eye mask and music to deepen the experience. As the medicine takes effect, you may enter expanded states of awareness, where insights and emotional processing can arise. I’ll be present throughout to ensure your safety and help you feel grounded. Afterward, we’ll spend time processing your experience, with a follow-up integration session in the following days.
-
Each method of receiving ketamine has unique effects and considerations:
Sublingual (oral): Taken as a dissolvable tablet, this approach offers a more gradual onset and often a longer duration of effects.
Intramuscular (IM): Administered as an injection into the muscle, IM provides a more rapid and immersive experience with a shorter duration.
Intravenous (IV): Delivered through an IV drip, this method allows for precise dosing and a steady, controlled experience.
Your medical provider will help determine the best method or combination to explore based on your needs and medical history.
-
Before your session, I recommend:
Wearing comfortable clothing
Avoiding food for at least 2-3 hours beforehand (as advised by your medical provider)
Setting an intention for your session
Arranging a safe way to get home, as you cannot drive for the rest of the day after KAP.
We’ll discuss preparation in detail beforehand to ensure you feel ready.
-
I am not a medical provider, but I work in collaboration with medical professionals who can assess whether KAP is appropriate for you. If you don’t already have a prescribing provider, I can refer you to one of my trusted medical partners.
-
Ketamine is a prescribed medication, and a medical evaluation ensures it is safe and appropriate for you. A licensed medical provider will assess your health history, current medications, and any contraindications before prescribing ketamine.
-
Psychedelic integration is the process of making sense of and applying insights from psychedelic experiences to daily life. This can involve reflecting on the experience, working through emotions, and exploring how to embody any shifts in awareness. Even if you’re not participating in KAP, integration therapy can be valuable if you’ve had previous psychedelic experiences—whether recent or in the past—and are seeking support in processing them.
-
Each session is tailored to your unique needs. We’ll explore your concerns in a collaborative and supportive space, drawing from evidence-based and holistic modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based approaches, and depth-oriented inquiry. My role is to help you navigate challenges, deepen self-awareness, and move toward meaningful change.
-
I offer both in-person and virtual therapy sessions. KAP sessions, however, are conducted in person to ensure a safe and supported experience.
-
I accept major credit cards and Health Savings Account (HSA) payments through my secure payment system.
-
At this time, I only accept Aetna insurance. If you have a different provider, I can provide a superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
-
A superbill is a detailed receipt of services that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. While I cannot guarantee coverage, many plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services. I recommend checking with your insurance provider about your benefits.
-
Yes, therapy sessions are typically eligible expenses for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). I recommend confirming with your plan provider to ensure coverage.
